If exercise on land feels difficult, you may be wondering whether moving in water would be more manageable. Hydrotherapy, also called aquatic physiotherapy, uses exercise in water as part of a rehabilitation plan. It is different from simply buying a pool pass or joining a general swimming class.
Enhanced Physio accepts hydrotherapy enquiries through Runcorn and Southport. Call before booking so we can discuss the assessment, venue and practical arrangements. A standard clinic appointment is not a confirmed pool session.
Why water may change an exercise
Water provides buoyancy and resistance, so exercises can be adapted differently from exercises on land. The useful question is whether those features help you work towards a particular movement or rehabilitation goal. Suitability still depends on your health and what you can safely do. Read a hospital explanation of aquatic therapy.
For example, ask how a proposed pool exercise relates to the activity you want to improve outside the pool. Also ask how progress would be reviewed and whether land-based practice belongs in the same plan. A treatment setting is useful when it serves your goal; it does not guarantee a better result.
Check suitability before arranging a session
Tell the team about relevant medical conditions, recent surgery, wounds, infections and changes in your health. Some circumstances require medical clearance or postponement. Pool access and changing facilities also matter. University Hospitals Dorset explains why screening is needed.
If you need help entering the water, changing clothes or travelling to the venue, raise that during the first call. Do not assume that a support person, hoist or particular access arrangement is included without confirmation.
Five details to confirm before you travel
- The exact pool or venue and where to meet.
- Whether an initial clinic assessment is needed first.
- Access arrangements and what you need to bring.
- The appointment fee and any separate pool-entry charge.
- How any funding or referral requirements will be checked.
Our free initial physiotherapy assessment should not be read as a promise of free hydrotherapy, pool entry or ongoing treatment. Confirm those costs separately.
Ask about hydrotherapy at your preferred clinic
Call 1300 833 866, choose Runcorn or Southport, and tell us the activity you want help with. We can arrange the appropriate next step before you travel. If a clinic assessment is recommended first, use the ordinary initial physiotherapy route.
